Hi,
My parents are visiting me from India, for 3 months. Can you guys advise how do I buy the medical/dental coverage for them. My mother is diabetic and has gone through bypass surgery. Does this change anything? Please advise. Thank you.

Very few policies offer coverage for preexisting conditions. There are several which offer limited emergency coverage for a crisis.

Be prepared to pay for all servces resulting for treatment for diabetes and heart conditions. You will have difficulty finding a doctor to provide routine care in most cities as there is generally a long wait for new patient appointments.

Be sure to purchase medevac and repatriation coverage.

Your question about dental insurance is very strange. It makes it sound like you are bringing her here for care since relatively few USCs have dental insurance.

Oh no, I think I conveyed the wrong message. I do not expect for them to have any treatment done here, only if some problem arises.
My mother just got a new denture and even though I donot expect any problems, I was wondering if we need to visit any dentist if she starts getting any pains etc.
For diabeties & heart care, I really donot expect to have any treatment done. Everything is under control for them. My worry is that if they come here and fall sick for some reason (flu, accident etc), what should I know before I take the insurance policy? I want them to be covered for the things I donot foresee at this time.

Expect to pay dental out of pocket.

Be sure to take the policy that provides crisis treatment for preexisting conditions and the medevac assistance to provide the best coverage. Be sure that they have flu shots before they come - especially your mom with her diabetes. HAve her bring copies of her recent treatment requirements and contact your docor's office to see what their policies are for seeing them on an emergency basis. Care in the ER is the most expensive option so if you make prearrangements with your doctor, you may be able to avoid trips there.

Google for Narenda. He posts on several forums and assists people in identifying the best policy for their situation.

Thanks. I did search for Narendra's posts and found his website insubuy.com. He has couple of options listed there and he advises to use the comprehensive one. Since there is a significant price difference, I was hoping to get some advise in this forum from the people who have used either of these and if they have any reviews. When I try to compare the 2 (fixed vs comprehensive), I really did not see big differences in terms of emergency care.

I even tried the ICICI lombard insurance because their coverage looked good. But I found disturbing reviews on immihelp.com for the same and thought to stay away from it.

My family uses MedexAssist but has only used it as US resident going elsewhere. We have never had to have any claims processed. It was recommended by university for foreign travel.

I suggest that you speak with several agencies personally.

A senior citizen couple is planning a visit to the US and I am looking to obtain information on health insurance. The gentleman is over 80. Both are in good health.
WHat are the options available for seniors over 80. I have heard that no insurance is available in India, but there are plans available in the US. Can anyone recommend reliable insurance co's/plan in India for senior citizens not over 80.

Thanks in advance for your help.
