Having oath postponed

My mom has her citizenship interview in Novemver. Her office does not do same day oath and she will have to wait for th letter (usually arrives in 2-4 weeks). She cannot attend oath at that time as she needs to travel (and she wont be able to receive her US passport this soon; she will be traveling to the country with visa free regime for US citizens/GC holders). Has anyone ever had oath postponed? How did you do that?

You would send oath letter back to DO with valid explanation requesting it to be rescheduled.

I just got my Oath letter (Form N-445) and on the bottom of this form stated:
If you cannot come to this ceremony, return this notice immediately and state why you cannot appear. In such case, you will be snt another notice of ceremony at a later date. You must appear at an oath ceremony to complete the naturalization process.

I think it's not gonna be a problem.
But my advice is try to find out when the next oath ceremony will occur and if possible delay the trip. If you live close to Regional Passport Agency you will be able to get Passport and/or Passport Card within 2 days, or even same day.

Can't the OP's mother request the IO, after the interview, to schedule her oath date after the trip? That would be the easiest route as compared to sending the OL back after receiving it and then waiting for a new OL to come.

Yes, the IO can put a not in the case file with that request. Whether the request is noticed by the scheduling department is another question.
