Having B1/B2 and applying for H1

Hi,
I have a B1/B2 visa and I will be applying for my H1 visa. Wanted to know, if when the H1 visa is approved, will my B1/B2 visa be cancelled.

I have my brother's wedding in August and after that will have to work for a company in October. Can I travel to USA [in August] on B2 and then work from October onwards using H1?

Thanks in advance,
Ana.

The VO has the option of cancelling any existing stamping when the applicant appears for a new stamping. Consequently, it is not possible to know conclusively what will be done. In all likelihood it will not but it certainly could be.

If you are attending the wedding in Aug, why are you not returning home to work until your position in the US is available? Appear for stamping after your return and you have no problems. If you are not now in the US, you will either have to get stamping in your home country or take the longer time filing for a COS.

There is also the possibility that you could be granted entry with no COS notation.

Depends on the individual consul. I know of cases where the B-1/2 visa was left untouched. I also know of cases where it was cancelled without prejudice prior to H-1B issuance.
