Having a green card and TN - Implications

What if you have a green card and unknowingly applied for a TN visa because you were instructed to do so by your company? Great. What are the implications? Can INS link the two together? Do the systems interface?

not sure

I'm not sure, but it would seem that if you successfully applied for and got a TN and they didn't figure out that you had a GC, that they aren't going to figure it out...though it is possible that someone will figure it out upon a re-entry.

When you say you "applied" for the TN, do you mean you had the customs agent stamp your passport? Normally you obtain the TN when you enter the country.

Either way, once it is "approved", I would simply send a letter to the USCIS informing them of the approval of your GC and the fact you no longer need the TN. Send a copy of the TN (or the actual I-94 card since you no longer need it).

No big deal.

if you have entered the US on a non-immigrant visa after you have become a US resident, it is generally considered an abandonment of your permanent resident status.
