It shouldn't affect you, unless you owe back taxes and haven't made arrangements with the IRS for paying them.

You can request tax transcripts from the IRS. AFAIK this is a free service, just call them up and ask for transcripts covering the last 5 years. Intructions are here: http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html
