I wanted to know if any of you here have had this particular case. if so, please share! i would so greatly appreciate your help.

So the situation is... getting married to a US citizen and the spouse is getting a SSI check. now, I know that getting SSI is not an issue as long as it doesn't interfere with sponsoring me financially (bc someone else is sponsoring me, not my spouse), but I just wanted to know if during the interview, you were asked ANYTHING regarding the spouse getting the SSI check????

Thanks Al Southner, but that thread doesn't answer the question of specifically, whether the interviewer has brought up the subject during the interview...
And if so, in what manner that was asked.

The interviewer will be of course be interested in how the spouse intends to provide for the petitioner, and he might need to disclose the fact that he receives SSI check. The officer might be interested in knowing for what or he/she can ignore the issue. The SSI check won't be an issue to the interviewer as far I aware.

thanks for the reply.
does anyone else have any input towards this topic? i'd greatly appreciate any shares of stories, or just any related advise, help!

Are you aware of the differences between SSI and SSDI? Household income (you working) will affect SSI (but not SSDI) payments. If you are counting on SSI after you marry and start supporting yourself and her, her SSI will terminate or be greatly reduced.

no, i honestly do not know too much about the subject, but whether if it is SSI, or SSDI, it is not an issue to me if the gov't payment is reduced or even terminated. I just need to know if that issue will be brought up in any way during the interview process (i know that US citizen getting this payment does not affect my GC eligibility but i just wanted to know).

The fact that SSI is a means tested benefit and SSDI is an earned benefit is significant.

I find it very odd that someone contemplating marriage is unaware and seemingly unconcerned about his prospective spouse's finances.
