Has anyone experienced this before?

I had a civil wedding back in December, but the formal wedding will only happen in May, then I invited my family to come and they just got their B2 visas. To my surprise, the visas were only good for 3 months! do you guys know why? when the reciprocity table says 60 months?
I searched the B visa forum and didn't find any question like this :( anyone?
 
I think this is normal.
My dad applied for B2 visa when he attended my graduation ceremony, his visa was also valid for 90 days only. (It was in 2004)

However my mum was granted a 10-year tourist visa (in 2000). Don't know if it's anything related to the September 11, 2001?
 
That is totally at discretion of the Consulate. There is no "rule" about the Consulate "must" grant a 10 year visa or a 3 months visa or xx months or years in a visa, there is a minimum and a maximum and as you see the espectrum is pretty wide. There are many factors in play to make that decision.

The same thing happened to my brother. The woman that interviewed him told him that he's getting a visa for 3 months for now, after he goes to the US and comes back, he can go and renew his visa and then they will give him a 'big one'....her own words. I don't know if it's the same situation, it does vary a lot. When he went to renew his visa he got it for 5 years. My parents got the one for 5 years in their first try. As far as I know everyone from my home country gets it for either 3 or 5 years. Of course this is not a rule, it varies from country to country and from interview to interview.

The officer at the POE will "decide" of the lenght of the stay. It's possible they allow a six month stay...

I think she's talking about how long the visas are good (diff entries) for and not how long they can stay in the US (each particular entry).
 
There are cases where people have been only granted a one time entry permit. A little advice, don't wait too long before your fam attempts to apply for another visa. I don't know the time stipulations to reapply, but whatever the time period is don't wait too long before making another appointment.
 
Thanks for all the imput! In fact my dad has had many tourist visas before, but last time he was here was in 1990.... a lot changed since then. At the POE they will probably give them 6 months but in reality they will only stay here for 1 week because they have to go back to work, my brother has to go back to school, etc... But they were planning on coming back for the holidays, they are are just frustrated bc they'd have to apply again!
Another interesting thing is that there is an annotation on their visa saying: "Daughter's wedding in Ohio" So at this point I think if it weren't for me providing documentation to prove we have a hall and catering all paid for, the consul would end up denying their visa.
Now after I become a citizen, I have no plans on applying for a green card for them because having a green card is high maintenance, they wouldn't come here often enough to maintain it. Do you guys think that it's okay for them to get a B2 visa once I am a citizen?

Ofcourse it is ok. In my case, my parents are GC holder but they will give up the GC and will try to get Visitor visa. I am a Citizen too.
