Has anyone done EAD by him/herself?

My I485 is still pending (over 8 months) while my future employer is almost losing patience in waiting for me to be on board with my GC.

My current attorney asks for $750+ to process my EAD application. Since my GC approval is "around the corner" (according to my attorney,) I wonder if I could save some money.

The form and instructions for I765 have been downloaded. From what I can see, it is quite simple except I heard a simple FP card is needed but not supplied with the online form.

If someone has successfully done an EAD during the past, can you share the experience with me?? Any help would be much appreciated.
 
Myself , Just Applied over a week back.

I Applied EAD by Myself, You will need Form 756, 2 immigration style Photos, Check of $100, EAD signature card ( available at any
local INS ) , Copies of I-94 ( Front and Back ) and 485 Reciept notice. Good luck.

        In the signature card, do you have to just sign the card,in the rectangle section. Do you need to give fingerprint also in the sqare box on the card???
         Let us know what all to fill in the signature card.

485 receipt notice

Is a copy of the 485 receipt notice enough? or do you have to take the original?

1) 750$ is not a lot of money if you compare to the fact that
    without your EAD (or green card) you are loosing a salary
    (probably well over $1000/week). In the past I bought
     jacket and pants that costed more than that in order
     to be able to work. You could see that as a work related
     expense

2) Event if your attorney fill up the paper work and MAIL
   it to the INS, it will probably takes months before
   you receive it!

 So it looks like your only real alternative is to get it in
 person at your local INS office. Go on the INS web site, dowload
the I-765 PDF and fill it up. Bring your documents (and your I-485
receipt) and fill in person (you will probably have to be in line
at 4am but if it is what is required to work, it might worth it!

One of my friend did that (in is case owever it was family base
immigration) it fill the 485/131/765 paperwork himself and
apllied at the San Jose INS. He walk out that day with his
EAD card and got his advanced parole 2 weeks latter.

You need to wait for 90 days

If you filed your I-485 to CSC, then you need to wait for at least 90 days after the I-765 receipt date to go to a local INS office to get an interim EAD. I think an H-1B transfer with premium processing would be faster (you are guaranteed a reply within 15 working days).

Well from what I understood he/she has not filled for the
EAD (I-765) so he/she will not receive a receipt!

You need to wait 90 days after the RD of your I-765 filling (EAD card)
when you want go get a interim EAD. In his/her case he/she needs
to fill the I-765 paperwork, and since it takes ions to be process
at Laguna Niguel (CSC), He/she should fill it in person at his/her
local INS

What should I write? My case transffered to LA Interview and I have my 1 st EAD now.

I\'m out of status? or AOS applicant? (or something else???)

If anyone know this regard, please help me...

The long tiny rectangular box is for signature and the Square Box mentioned, "print here " is for your index finger print of right hand.

Got Got Reciept Notice for Self Applied EAD, Here is some details

Mailed Date : Sep 26th
Recieved date : Oct 5 2001
Notice date : Oct 31 2001

Looks like Its faster than Applying through the lawyer, May be 2-3 weeks more. Inspite of Postal delays these days.

Now, for I-485 , My FP Notice Has also been recieved Last week :

Lets wait and see, which one comes first.
