dengdeng, be careful about celebrating a festival on 9/11 :p

What exactly is Ganesh Chaturthi for?

Is it his B'day? or a general day?

And why do we throw the 20 ft Idols in the sea?

Ganesh Chaturdi is a very big festival for indians. I personally always celebrate it with utmost reverance. I hope Lord Ganesha removes all our(worshipper's) obstacles in the coming year.

Ganesh Chaturthi is based on a mythological story. It is not related to any birthday. It is based on auspicious time to pray Lord Ganesha.
We throw the idols in the Sea because they are made of Earthern material and we want to dissolve these statues in water after the festival is over.

dengdeng,
I never heard these dishes in chinese Restaurant? are they traditional ones or what?

It's not a dish in a restaurant - try to go to a Asian store and check out the desserts aisle (well actually a box piled up with moon cakes, sesame seed buns and other goodies).

As long as you are there also check out leechi flavored jelly candies or coconut juice drinks (not soda).

For a little more authentic flavor find a good dimsum place and be there by 11:30 a.m. Ask for beef tripes or pork spare ribs with bean sauce .. yummy !!!

I think now I know how I will spend the long weekend :D :D :D :D

You will be surprised to know how close turkish is to hindi :

these words are common and have the same meaning :

Hawah, Namak, Shakkar, Shukriya, Adalaat, awaara etc.

They probably migrated both east and west from Farsi

May be all these are either Sanskrit or prakruta derived. Even English is very close with some words

Matru -- Mother
Pitru -Father
Bhratru -Brother
Aggressor - aggressor (leader or invader)

Some people say Latin and Sanskrit are having same base. Most of the languages came out these two.

Since all our problems went unlistened by BCIS, now everyone putting their problems infront of GOD.

Before them there were only 10 months

September was originally 7th month and not 9th month

Setptember : 7th month :: Saptaha : 7

October : 8th month :: Ashta : 8

November : 9th month :: Navami : 9

December : 10th month:: Dasami : 10
