Had applied for I140 - can I go on F2 status within US

Hi
I had applied for I140 earlier. I understand that getting F2 visa stamped on my passport will be difficult since I have already declared an intent to immigrate.
However, can I alter the status to F2 within US for sometime.
Does the I539 form ask for the intent to immigrate?
Any help appreciated

If you have a pending I-140 it means that either you are primary H1 applicant. F2 status is for dependents of a person on F1 status and form I-539 is used to reinstate F or M status.
