H4 Visa

I am currently on H4 VISA and have been volunteering my services as a Research Assistant in one of the B-Schools in NYC. I've been offered a full-time paid RA position by my advisor. I understand being on H4 its not possible to accept this offer. I need to understand, if I can apply for an H1-B visa in this scenario. Also, can I apply for a student VISA?

Yes you can apply for either H1 or F1. However the school has to sponsor H1 or has to give the I20 for F1. Consult the immigration advisor of the school.
