Get name change done at Houston

I had to change my status from H1 to H4 and go to India for stamping. For safe side i did change my last name on passport and also got husband's name endorsed on my passport. I did it at Indian Counsulate at Houston,TX. They gave me my new passport the same day with $90 emergency fee. I did not get any problems in H4 stamping at delhi after that. I still dont know if it was mandatory or not.
 
Name Change

Thanks for your suggestion. Since I have the exact same situation, I would like to know few more things. How did you handle name change in social security office, IRS etc. I have converted to H4 here recently and if I change the name, will they object while stamping in India(Delhi) b'coz the approval will have a different last name.

curious_girl thanks for posting info. I am also planning to change from H1 to H4. Can you post what documents you used to get the H4 in India.
