H4 visa to H1

Hi everyone,
I had a question and I would appreciate if anyone can throw some light on it.

I will be married soon and my wife would come to the US on H4 visa.
She will be looking for a job soon thereafter. Upon getting a Job, can she start working with the receipt of H1-B upon filing that provides the EAC number or does she have to wait for her H1 papers to arrive ?
 
She has to wait until the H-1 is approved. Since the quota is over, the start date for the new H-1 will be from Oct 1st, 2005.
