H4 VISA STAMPING ERROR -- Urgent! Please Help

Hi,

I am on H4 visa(dependent).

After I came here, i have applied for the name change.
So,i have got new passport, and they put a stamp on my old passport saying that "PASSPORT CANCELLED BUT VISAS ARE VALID".

Recently i have applied for visa revalidation and i have sent my 2 passports to St.Louis.

I have received back my passports with new visa yesterday.

But they put visa stamp(with new last name) in my old passport (which was on maiden name & cancelled), instead of giving it on the new one.

Will this Visa valid ? I am planning to go to India sometime in next month. I am bit worried about this.

Will really appreciate your suggestions.

Is it possible to get visa correction done in Madras, India ? If yes, what documents do we have to submit ?

You are better off here

Try getting it corrected here (if you could postpone your trip by a few days) since it takes just 5 business days.

chennai has become highly inconsistent, in worst case, they might take upto 2 months check others' experinces like Venkie's in this forum. If you can take the risk its OK otherwise you might want to send it for correction here before you leave to be safe.
 
No you are fine. Having the visa stamped in the old passport is no big deal. There are absolutely no issues in getting the visa stamped again in the new passport. You need all the documents that were needed for the H1 stamp.
A letter explaining why you need the stamp will also be required. Plan to attend an interview in the US consulate, if you want to spend the time.
If US consulate says you are fine, request a letter from US consulate...
I dont see any issue since you will have both passports always in hand....
