H4 visa possible with registered marriage only ?

Hi,

One of my friends is planning to get the registered marriage done and wants to apply for his spouse's H4 visa before the social marriage (there are no good dates before Dec).

1. Can someone apply for H4 on the basis of registered marriage only ?

2. What about the fact that consulate may ask for pictures of social marriage ? My friend can certainly give pictures of bride and groom together but not for a social marriage.

Any responses will be greatly appreciated. Please share your responses if anyone is in the same situation.

It will depend on the mood of the Visa officer interviewing for H4 and the consulate where applied. Generally in Chennai they interogate lot about non social marriage, whereas at Mumbai if you give genuine reason they are ok. But they still ask for sure why it wasn't a wedding with guests and religious rituals. In any case carrying atleast 15/20 picutres is advisable.
