H4 Visa - DS 156 questions

Hi folks,

I'm getting married in May of this year and was wondering if my girlfriend can apply for an appointment date for an H4 visa (Mumbai Consulate)? The VFS guys said she can apply for an appointment (to reserve a date) right now without being married yet....Can somebody confirm?

If that's true, then how will she fill out the DS 156 form.......? Specifically, there are sections (ex # 17, 18, 19) that specifically ask for spouse information (married, name of spouse, etc). I assume she can't write my name there, because as of today, she isn't married to me. So she can't write "Married" or enter my name in spouse's information.

Please share your thoughts and experiences.

I had taken the appointment before marriage back in 2003. The officials had told me to fill the form as if I were already married. You can call and ask what you need to do. Hope this helps.
