Hello,
I am visiting India for my wedding and only couple days ago received my wifes H4 visa stamped. We are scheduled to travel back to the U.S on 8th. I happen to notice that in the 'annotation' area on the visa in my wifes passport, they have mis spelled my name(both first and last names).
I called the in the chennai consulate and also the tt services, they suggested that I may send it back for a correction and possibly they can correct it (note : annotation is not included as a part which is correctable in the 'correction policy' by the consulate).
I need some suggestion. Will it cause any problems at the port of entry if I go ahead and travel to the U.S with out getting it corrected?
Some one suggested, I could use my marriage certificate and I-797 at the port of entry to get an admission for my wife.
Will this typo cause any problem during I-485 application for my wife? Is the annotation significant??
Please help!! I need to take a decision my tomorrow. Will have to post phone the ticket further and send the passport for correction.
I would really appreciate any help.
thank you.

annotation is important. Post 9/11 POE inspectors are exercising their whim. I would take a conservative approach since you cannot judge 2000 POE inspectors mental outlook by posting a question here ...

Infact I took a chance and entered the U.S with the mis-spelled annotation. Didnt have any problems at the port of entry. I still have this question about its affect on the I-485 processing. How does the mis-spelled annotation affects the green card processing. Does anyone know of any way it can be corrected here in the U.S, by sending it to the St.Louis?
Thanks for any input you may provide..
