H4 visa at Mumbai....

My spouse will go to Mumbai consulate to get H4 visa.....I would like to know.

1. What documents are required, other than the usual, pay stub, I-797 notice and copy of my passport.
2. What questions are being asked during interview?
3. Anything else that I should be aware of.

1. What documents are required, other than the usual, pay stub, I-797 notice and copy of my passport?
--- Your complete I-129 petition +LCA that was submitted to BCIS (INS) by your lawyer or Employer for your H1, ask the copy from HR or Employer, new style photograph 2By 2 Inch, copy of your passport including blank pages, spouse has to fill up DS-156 and pay the fees.
2. What questions are being asked during interview?
-- Depends on officer
3. Anything else that I should be aware of.
- Your spouse should go directly to Consulate, now they require interview , Get a letter from your employer that you are working with them on H1, describing your salary; job duties (should match with H1 petition). IF asked let your spouse show it.

my wife is also going to mumbai consulate in couple of weeks..apart from the regular documents, I am sending following extra documents:

1. utility bills for last six months
2. 10 photographs of the workplace
3. 10 photographs of rental apartment
4. visiting cards of some company ppl
5. income tax return copy

though Mumbai consulate is not asking for these documents, but they are compulsory in Chennai consulate..thats what I heard..

let me know your H4 experience

Did you get your wife's name change in her passport? I know it's not required, but I heard some officer ask for it.

Get your wife name changed on passport with married name (make affidavit of married name and attach copy of marriage certificate and pay the Fee) or get spouse name added on her passport from Passport office, it takes maximum 2 days( if you give “Chai Pani” and catch some agent near PP office Worli or agent in your area if you belong to Bombay) better is to get her name changed to married name. I have read that Bombay consulate needs spouse name on passport or new PP with married name. Search the threads

yeh..my wife got her name changed..its still confusing thing whether it is compulsory or not..recently my friend's wife was issued H4 only after she changed her name..so its better to get name changed..

as Ginnu mentioned it does not take too much time to change the name with chai pani..

My wife has to go to Ahmedabad PP office to get it changed. I will tell her to find an agent there.

I have seen your many expert comments in this forum.. i m regularly reading this forum from last four months after my wife's F2 visa was rejected..

Now i have H1 visa but i dont have H1 stamp in my passport..

I was wondering whether my wife can go for H4 without H1 stamp in my passoprt or is it compulsory for H4 in Mumbai consulate?

I will appreciate your expert opinion.

I have seen your many expert comments in this forum.. i m regularly reading this forum from last four months after my wife's F2 visa was rejected..

Now I have H1 visa but I don’t have H1 stamp in my passport..
I was wondering whether my wife could go for H4 without H1 stamp in my passport or is it compulsory for H4 in Mumbai consulate?
-----If you have valid H1 Approval notice and valid I-94 and maintain H1 status with your employer, your wife can go to Bombay consulate and can get H4 visa based on your H1 approval notice (H1 Visa Stamp in your Passport is not must) many have got H4 with out primary H1 holder not having H1 visa sticker in passport. You have to send all the other required documents and copy of all the pages of your Passport including blank pages.

Ginnu, Are u sure about the the above? I am also in the same situation, My wife wants to get her H4 stamped second time, she already has one H4 expired in her passport.
My passport is stuck in St. louis.
She has her H4 approval also but when u visit the mumbai consulate web site they say that H1 visa is must.

Do know someone who got the visa without current H1 stamped, i have my old expired H1 on passport.

Your H1 Approval Notice from BCIS is MUST, You can also send copy of your H1 Approval Notice certified by your lawyer, she can also show H4 approval Notice if asked. Many have got H4 stamped when primary applicant did not have H1 visa sticker in his/her passport. You have to send all the pages of your passport (including blank pages) and other required documents and he has to visit US consulate as they now need interview
