H4 visa and Taxes

My wife will be travelling with me on Dec 26th 2004 after our marriage on Dec 8th 2004. I am not sure of how the Taxes will work. How long does my wife have to be in US for me to file for Joint Taxes? Also, Is it sufficient if i file for Tax ID for my wife before the end of this year to file for joint taxes? Anyone who have been through this situation or are aware of thie situation, please comment.

Get tax id as soon as you return to TX and file jt retun for the year 2005 not 2004. To get the tax id you have to send passport & I 94 copy.

what h4 taxes????

I am new to this site and thread, sorry to put this question but what are h4 taxes, my wife is on h4 and as per my knowledge h4's can't work.
I am layman in this world of immigration law's. please can somebody tell me what is h4 taxes allabout.
