I am in the US for 3 years now on an H4 visa. Now if a residency program sponsors me an H1, will I get 6 years on my H1 or only 3yrs (remaining of H4). I am planning to join a 4 year residency, so I am wondering if I will be able to complete my residency on H1. If this is the case is there any way I can get 6 years on H1? If not I have to go for a J1. Can someone help me?
