H4 to H1

Hi,
I am on h4 and have got h1 approval from company A. Due to some unforeseen reasons, I have to move to company B. Can I move from Company A to Company B without starting work in company A ie can I initiate H1 transfer next month (sep)?
Are pay stubs mandatory to transfer H1?

If you never worked for Company A, moving to company B will be difficult I think. You will need recent pay stubs to transfer. Check with your attorney.

what was the company A, H1b effective date?

I am in the same situation the H1B effective date is October 1 2007. Please let me know whether I can transfer my H1B without pay stubs and i797. I donot have a copy of i797 because the employer is not giving it to me.
