H4 to H1 Visa stamping question

Hi,

I am currently on H4, I am going to Chennai consulate for H1 Visa stamping on OCt 5th. If for any reason my H1 gets rejected, will I have my H4 still valid and will I be able to enter US on H4. Will the consulate cancel my H4 in any case?

Just want to add more to my question:

The reason I am going to India for stamping is, While the H1 was being processed I went to India and I was told to go back to India for stamping and thats the only way I can get the H1 Visa status.
