H4 to F1

Hi All,

I have been admitted to MS in Computer Engineering prorgam for Fall-2004. I'm currently on H4 visa and I would like to change the status to F1. I would like to know the details for converting from H4 to F1. I would like to know following things

1> Any particular doc I need to have that other F1 applications dont' need? (different case as I'm converting from H4 to F1)

2> How do I justify change from H4 to F1, since I can study on H4 too? sufficient to say that I want to work on campus, and have chance for OPT? note that I don't have any RA/TA offers right now.

3> If F1 gets rejected, can i enter on H4?

I'm planning to go to my home country, India, for converting from H4 to F1.

Any other information for the same will be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Lenz

H4 to F1

Get a immigration attorney normally charge $400 plus $130 for INS fees. It is worth.

You will definitely get RFE, as you mentioned , the only valid reason you can give with a supporting letter from your dean is.

Reason "Student can get OPT only with F1 status, which is very very important to student to get hands on experience in the field in USA"

Never ever mention you want to work in the campus or off campus.

With this COS you can live in US as long as you maintain your F1 staus. If you go out of USA , to coming back you have to get F1 visa stamped in your passport. Chances are 50/50 because, you came here with h1/h4 with immigration intention, now you are going to come with F1, no immigration intention. Easy to reject.

H4 to F1 Visa conversion

Has anyone succeeded in changing visa from a valid H4 Visa (till Jan 05) to a F1 Visa in Canada or outside US?
If F1 gets denied can one come back on the previous H4 Visa?
Any comments will be much appreciated.
