H4 to F1--Proof for financial support

Hi everyone,

I have been on an H4 visa from the past 4 and a half years now. Last week I got accepted into a PhD program in a private university. I want to convert to F1 visa status. The university is asking that my parents (back in India) show half the financial support (for 1 yr) and the other half can be shown by my husband who works here on H4.

Why must my parents show any financial proof. They are old, and I do not want to bother them now. Isn't it enough if my husband shows all the necessary financial proof?

Any body can sponser you financially, even parents or husband is not required.

University does need sponsership letter, but they can not dictate who has to give it for you. They need only money.
