My wife is converting from H4 to F1 (Vermont service centre) and she is also applying for on campus jobs. She is able to get one, but her employer wants to know when will she be getting her F-1.

I want to know from some experinced cases, that how much time it took to get their visas (form I-539)approved. i.e. if you could provide me with the receipt date and approval date, then i can make out how much time it is taking. My receipt date is Aug 07, 2002

Thanks in advance

My wife filed for status adjustment from H4 to F1 at California processing center in April, 2002. Her case receipt states that estimated processing time is from 320 to 350 days. I expect it get cleared in next March.

Your change of status should have been done a while ago. While the Notice Recepit does say 320 - 350 days but actually it is taking a lot less time these days. As of 9/13/2002, INS was reported to be processing cases with notice dates of 23rd July. So most April 2002 cases must have been decided around 2 months ago.

Well, I am answering my own question.

It took 43 days to get a reply from the INS but in my case the reply was an enquiry. But if I had submitted everything they wanted then may be i would have got approved in 43 days.

rehan,

I hope that is the case. But reality is that I am still waiting approval from INS. I can not understand why INS put 320-350 days on the receipt if they can get it done in three months.

Thanks,

I think you should call the INS office and find out the status. The INS processing time reports say that if 30 days have passed since the time when your processing should have started as per the report, then you could call INS agents and ask them about it.
