H4 Revalidation outside US

Hi,

I am on H4 Visa. My spouse's visa (Stamp Date) expired on 1st Oct 2001. We got another extension till Oct 2004. We have the I797 & I94 documents. We didn't get our passports revalidated in US. If I were to go to India, can I get revalidation of my passport at the US Consulate(Chennai) office with only the photocopy of my spouse's I797 & I94 documents and my original I797 approval notice. My spouse is not travelling and hence his passport will not be revalidated.

Qn on Revalidation of H4

Thanks for the info. Does it mean that the consular doesnt check whether the H1 holder's passport is stamped or not before H4 stamping or H1 approval papers is enough? And does the same apply if there is a H1 transfer. I mean the can I get a H4 stamp based on the approval papers of my spouse's H1 transfer though his passport wont be stamped.
