What's the fees for H4 extension these days? My company lawyer asked me to send the check for 140 dollars attention to BCIS. Have they increased the visa fees?

Can I get it done myself from the consulate if I receive my H1 renewal? he asked me to fill G-28 and I539 for my wife's H4 extension

Thanks

--- Your lawyer is correct fee is $140 filed with form I-539

If you want to get it extended in US then it has to be sent to BCIS, if you go to your home country then you can get new H4 visa stamped based on your Spouse H1 approval notice
he asked me to fill G-28 and I539 for my wife's H4 extension
-- ---He is correct if you want to extend in US.

You can do it your self,
Fill up the form I-539
Fee Check $140 to BCIS
H1 holder Copy of H1 approval and valid I-94 (both the sides) recent 2-3 Pay Stubs
H4 holders current Valid I-94 copy both the sides
Marriage certificate
Employer letter that you are working on H1 with them and request for your spouse H4 extension ( not a Must, if you attach pay stubs, if attach will not hurt)
H4 holders Passport pages that show any past Visa, DOB, validity of Passport any stamps by BCIS (INS)

No need to pay extra to lawyer if he asks( if company is paying him send through him) company may not pay the $140 BCISFees for spouse H4 you can do it your self, Send the papers to BCIS before H4 holder I-94 expires, to get H4 is simple

The $140 does not include stamping. There are additional fees involved for visa stamp. You need to either send passports to State Dept or apply for a visa at a US consulate. Your wife can apply in Canada.

US$100 visa application fee (non refundable)
US$75 visa issuance fee (refundable if visa is not issued)
Fees are paid in local currency if applying in a US consulate.

The fees are per person.

-- “nkm-oct23” has posed you the fee and that is correct.

--- You and your wife can get H1, H4 visa sticker stamped by sending your Passport and H1, H4 extension approval notice to Department Of State in US ( it may take 90-100 days to get your passport back with Visa stamp
Read the regulation and instructions for Visa Revalidation in US:
http://travel.state.gov/hlop.html
http://travel.state.gov/visa_services.html
http://www.murthy.com/reissue.html
Or
when visit your home country then you can get H1 or H4 visa sticker in passport from US consulate.
You are allowed to stay with out Visa sticker in passport till the date you have valid I-94 or get new I-94 with H4 or H1 extension approval notice
I hope you are mixing up H4 extension and H4 Visa sticker, BCIS will only extend H4 status they don’t stamp H1 or H4 Visa sticker in your passports.

Fees for I-539?

Hi,
I am trying to renew the H-4 for my wife and son using a single I-539 application form. The guide lines are not clear about the application fee. Should I send in a single check for $140 or is it
2* $140 since the I-539 application includes 2 family members. Please let me know ASAP. I am planning to send in the documents by today.

Thanks,
Bala.

Reply from INS

ginnu,
INS has sent me a informal notice with SRC number stating that an overpayment of $140 for I-539 application ( 2 applicaticants, spouse and son) was done. In a nut shell it says that the applicant need to send only one check of $140 irespective of the number of applicants in the same application.
Now the question.
1. Is the office who checked my application overlooked the fact that there were two applicant and accepted only fee of one person? If so how would I know and proceed further?
2. Should I wait for getting the H-4 approval ( it is going to take a long time.) This path with an answer to the above question.? Meanwhile I am afraid that my son will be out of status and I don't want to get in trouble. Any other thoughts or previous experience?

Thanks in advance,
Bala

Got receipt

I got a single receipt (SRC#) for the H-4 renewal of my wife and son. I do hope their application clears smoothly. Thanks to all of you for your valuable suggestions.

Bala.

H-4 approved

I got H-4 approved for my wife and son in March, 2004. I used a single application for my wife and added my son in the supplement section. There was only one fee of 140$.
