H4 Help please...

Hi everyone,
I am IMG from India, who intends to pursue Residency in Int Med in the US.
One of the options i have is to get married to a H1B visa holder. My queries are:

  1. I was rejected a visa a few months back- B1/B2 visa. Can a H4 be rejected on these grounds?
  2. Are there any official/ unofficial stats. about rejections for H4?
  3. How long will it take for me to enter the country from the time the H4 is filed?
I would be grateful if anyone can help me out in my queries.
Thanks in advance.
Take care

I believe you cannot work on a H4 even if you manage to get one, so I dont think you can do a residency while being on a H4

Probably not. H1/H4 visa is a dual intent visa. Hence "potential immigrant" grounds for rejection (possibly the reason for your B1/B2 rejection) may not apply here.

    Don't know

You should be able to enter US as soon as your H4 is approved.

Hi SURESH2000

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I meant that i will eventually be entering my Residency on a H1 or J1, but this is in regard to the fact that i have to take my Step2CS and Step3 in the US (have already cleared my Step1 and Step2CK). And my concern is weather i'll be at the right time to enter to take my exams in time to enter residency in time for the 2006 batch?
Also can you please let me know how long will the process take on an average- from applying for the H4 and entering the country?
Thanks again

I'm not really sure about the H4 itself, but I heard that generally H1 processing takes a long time(around 3 months), but that expedited processing is available for a fee. But I believe you should be able to easily make it in time for the 2006 match. Anyway hopefully someone else might be able to give you the specifics. Good luck!

>>>Yes, u will be (depends on when u take ur exams). preferably take ur exams before 7/05.

>>> told by *intmeddoc* already .... now a detailed reply again ---
u apply for H4 --- go for interview at a US consulate --- H4 approved --- u get ur passport back with H4 stamp in it --- u may fly to US on board the first available flight.

does that make it clear? or there is still some confusion?
