H4 - H1B - H4 issue

I have a peculiar case. I entered US on an H4 visa. Later i applied for a transfer to H1B. In the meantime, my spouse changed jobs and also applied for a new H4 for me.

I started working on the H1B visa. Recently i was laid off. I am wondering if the second H4 approval i have from my spouse's second company is valid and keeps me in status or do i need to reapply for the same.

can anyone advice me on this ?

You need to record that you are switching to h4 with INS. Since you have an approved h4 visa, the best thing to do will be travelling outside US and enter back with a new I94 based on H4.
