H4 extension RFE in the US

1) I filed H1b & H4 extension in September24, 2003.
2) H1b Approval received on 25 Feb, 2004
3) I received RFE on H4 extension on March 1, 2004.

(It was a strange RFE, asking me to furnish all the details for last few years on renewal documents filed for H4).

Note:
I got married in 2002 and had applied for only once for H4 from Chennai, India. This was the first H4 extension I applied in the US. The only change was my wife’s last name was changed in the US after marriage and we did attach the Notorized copy of name change and new passport)

My company lawyer has replied to the RFE saying there are no previous renewal documents in US before this for H4 extension on March 15.

Question: 1. Has anyone has got the RFE like this before? 2. How long does it take for the H4 to get approved after the RFE answer is filed?.

----- That is OK if RFE has been replied by lawyer

---- it is better not to change name in US after getting first Visa stamp. Those who did may reply to your question
2. How long does it take for the H4 to get approved after the RFE answer is filed?.
