Hi there,

A basic question: for a UK citizen willing to move to USA, since the moment of the application for the job, and assuming that everything goes right so that they offer you the job and accept to sponsor you the H1B, till you eventually can move to USA to start working for that company, how long does it take approximately?

H-1B is subject to annual cap, which is currently 65,000. The cap for the financial year (FY) 2005 was reached long back. This means that there are no new H-1B visas available until next financial year i.e. beginning October 1, 2005.

In case you have earned a Master's or higher degree from a US university, then you can apply for 20000 visas exempted from this cap.

You can have a decision on your H-1B petition within two weeks of filing, in case you opt for Premium Processing (costing addition $1000). Normal processing takes 10-15 weeks.

Once your petition is approved, you can apply for a visa at the consulate and enter the US as soon as you get H-1B visa stamp in your passport.
