H1b visa for 6-9 months

I just got my J1 waiver and now thinking to do H1b. I work in a University. My employer was willing to sponsor H1b but my J1 got delayed and when I got my waiver He is saying that right now he does not have money to sponsor me for a year. So my question is that is it possible to do H1 for lesser time period then 1 year. Is my employer need to show that he has money in hand to employ me for n nos of months.

No need to show any particular money for your job to obtain an H1.

If your LCA is valid for that period then H1 will be issued for that perod.

But usually H1 period goes one year are 1+ years.
