H1B visa at London consulate

Hi guys,
I would like to know if anybody has any experience with London US consulate for H1B visa? One of my friends living in London, basically from India, got his new/first H1B and he is planning to go for visa stamping in London US consulate sometime in May 2007. So, i would like to if it is ok to go to visa in May 2007, even though H1b effective date is Oct 2007.

Please let me know.

I think you can apply for an H1 renewal 60 days before the current H1's expiration date. Atleast that's what I was told when I went to renew my H1-B at the Johannesburg Consulate. Last year my H1-B was to expire on March 13, and I was allowed to appear for an interview in the second week of January.

Please ask your friend to contact the US consulate in London and confirm.

Just an update. From this thread, it seems you can go for H visa renewal 90 days prior to current visa's expiration and not just 60 days before. Hope this helps.
