[H1B to H4] H4 stamping - no previous payslips

My wife was on an H1B visa with a consultant who was not paying her anything for about a year. Due to our ignorance, we did not understand the gravity of the problem, and only this year I applied to have her transferred to the H4 dependant visa, which got approved a month back. She has no payslips from this contracting company. I have been on a valid H1B visa for 2 years now. We are now planning to go for stamping. Will the visa officer demand to see paychecks for my wifes previous stint under the H1B visa? Also do you suggest that I go to India for stamping or to Canada/Mexico?

Thanks a lot for any advice you can give.

-they can ask but show her valid H4 extension approval (keep the COPY of her I-94 front and back)

------------that is up to you I think Canada/Mexico is better

No she did not work for the agency. Just waited for a project placement. Will a letter from the agency stating that she was on a unpaid leave of absence help?

Thank you for your advice
