H1B to F1 Conversion (for online courses) if laid-off

Hello Ginnu and others, I am presently working on H-1B for past 4 years after converting from F-1 . My present company is expecting a slowdown in sales in 2007 and planning to lay-off some employees. There is a high probability that I may get the cut as I have been with the company for just over 6 months. In the mean time I am going start my M.B.A with one of the top 20 U.S. business schools through online curriculum (4 semesters/year) starting Fall' 06 (and also looking out for jobs). I will be registered for 2 courses per semester.
1. If I get laid-off before finding another job (and in the middle of semester) what are my options of converting to F-1 assuming I can start full-time school from next semester? (BCIS says for F-1 Visa one can register only 1-online course per semester and need to take full load 9 credits/semester)
2. If I can convert to F-1, can I apply for change of status after getting laid-off while continuing online courses and still be in the country?

I would appreciate any advise from any of the Immigration experts.
