H1B Stamping

I am on OPT right now. My employer is going to do H1 for me but as I understand since INS is still processing June application, I may receive my H1B only by Oct end.

I am also planning to go to India in late Decemeber. But I have been told that I need to get H1B stamped in India so I need an appointment for late Decemeber but I can not make an appointment until I have a petition receipt number. So then how do I ensure that I have an appointment in late Dec or early January? At the current rate, come October and there may not be any date left for the appointment.

Short of doing premium processing, is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks for the help.

Go for premium process. Atleast you will get approval early and get appointmet in DEC. If it is Chennai you may not get appointment until Jan 2006

GreatGuru, thanks for the reply.

I enquired around and found that it may be possible to go to Canada and get the visa stamped. Is that right and advisable? Since Canada has shorter wait time, I may have time to get it stamped there and then go to India in late Decemeber. In that case, would I still be required to go to consulate in India?

That option is always available to you but if anything goes wrong you should prepared to go back to India directly from Canada.(Worsty scenario)
