I am from Pakistan and planning to go to Calgary for my first time stamping of h1b. Can any one please share their positive and negative experiences in Calgary embassy?

Much appreciated.

do you have a common name? (Mohammed, syed etc etc). i am assuming you are stuck in canada ?

The clearance process is the same wherever you apply. It's required by law. If you need a clearance, it doesn't matter whether you apply in Calgary, Canberra, Chennai, or Caracas: the visa officer needs to request a clearance on you. He doesn't have a choice.

CantBuyMyLove thank you for the reply. I received a called from US Consulate Ottawa (that is where my appointment is on july 21) and the consulate informed me that there could be a delay in processing the clearance for my case (anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months) because they don't have enough information on my file. I was on F1 to H1b case and traveled about 3 years ago. The type of clearance will confirm the time it will take to get my visa back. I am curious to know is that a very standard process these days to receive a call to every one or do they look for something else?

Thanks in advance.

Call in advance of appointment

It may or may not be standard around the world to let visa applicants know if there might be delays in their visa processing (that is, that they might need to have a clearance done), but it sounds very considerate of the Ottawa people to let you know before you make your travel plans. There are hundreds of messages on these boards from people who had to have clearances done, but weren't expecting it. It's good that you got this information and can plan your travel, allowing for the time it takes to do the clearance.

If you decide to travel outside Canada while your clearance is being done, don't forget to apply for a multiple-entry visa to Canada. Otherwise you'll have to apply for a new Canadian visa to get back to Canada to have your visa issued.

Good luck!
