My H1B is expiring 4/25/2005 and my 6 years expires on 11/13/2005. In thi scenario my lawyer told me that I have to apply for my H1b extension two times mext year. Ist time extension will be till 11/2005 and then since my labor has been in process fopr more than 2 years, 7th year extension will be filed again. The whole fees charged by the lawyer is around $3000. Can anyone tell me that is this process I can do it on my own or this is something I have to preferabbly do it thru8 a lawyer. Any suggestion any ideas....

Can anyone please advise?

Any thoughts whether filing for H1b renewal without going thru lawyer is feasible or not.

You can do it if you know the procedure starting from LCA attaching pending LC papers etc.

RE: san27geet

I applied my first H-1B with my immigration lawyer, after 3 years I renewed my second H-1B myself. It has been approved.

I think you can atleast try to do the first renewal yourself, it is very simple. If you keep a copy of all the documents on your previous application with you, you just need to repeat the same procedure. Your supporting documents are pretty much the same, but make sure you use the latest version of application forms on the web. Also, the application fees has been increased.

Good Luck.

I am also in the same situation. This trick is made by lawyer so that they can earn more.

Second 3 yr extension process should have been started 1-2 months before expiry. Then you could have got all 6 yrs.

Instead in my case 2 nd 3 yr extension started 8 months before expiry. So they counted date from the day of filing. Thus a residue of 6 months for which you need to file again.

I heard befor 6 yrs are given 3+2+1 yrs breakup. Looks like that was not the case.

Does anyone know the minimum validity( in months) of your passport if you apply for I-140. Checked the homeland website but could not find anything.
Thanks
