H1B & H4 Renewal

My H1 is expiring in Jan 2003 and I have applied for renewal. I have to travel in January to India. I will be coming back in Feb. 2003 when my current stamping would have expired. Can I come back with the approved I 797 and old stamping or I have to have new stamping done from India? Should I take that chance of stamping in India or rather delay my trip and get it revalidated from St. Louis?

Yes you can come in using old expired visa and new approval. There is no risk in trying to get another stamp at the consulate. You can also get the stamp after coming into US.

Really. I thought that the visa stamp must be valid for reentry.
