H1b extension over 6 years/EAD

My h1b is expiring (6 years) in March'05. I-140 is approved last month and finger printing is done for I-485.

Not applied for EAD and AP (no plans for new job or travel)

Questions –
1. When should I file for h1b extension over 6 years?

2. In case of any problems with h1b extension, is it possible to apply for EAD as a next step?

I'll appreciate your reply/suggestion.

Thanks & regards

You should be able to apply 4 mos. before the expiry of 6 yrs.

You also should have started your immigration process 365 days before 03/05.

------- Better apply EAD it is up to you to use or not use it

------ you can file 7th year H1 extension in October or November 2004( Extension can be filed 6 months advance of H1 expiry date)

------ If problem with H1 extension then you will NOT be able to work, for work you need H1 status or EAD, that is the reason I posted above that file for EAD as back up and you can also file AP, no need of lawyer to file EAD or AP you can directly file the EAD and AP, some try to save the fees of EAD or AP and dont think about the back up.
I'll appreciate your reply/suggestion.
