H1B after 1 year break

I worked in US for 6 years + and moved to Canada in March'05.

I know that I have to be out of the country for 12 months before even applying for a work visa to US.

I can only apply for H1 after March'06 and my question is -

Would I have to wait till Oct'06 to start working in US or I can start earlier?

anyone who has gone thru the similar situation, please respond..

It is a brandnew H1B under quota and you have to wait for Oct 1 to
start working.
