H1 visa stamping ( H4 to H1 case)

I have a H4 stamp on my passport valid thru July 2003. I am now working and have the H1-B approval notice.

I am planning a trip to India soon. Do I need to get the H1-B visa stamp on the PP to reenter the US. I am aware that if one has a valid H1 stamp and a new H1 approval notice, new stamp is not required. Will the same apply for an old H4 and a new H1.

U need a H1 stamp to come back into US and continue working. Many dont leave US at the H4 to h1 stage fearing rejection at the canadian or local consulate.
