H1 Visa revalidation from Canada - any problems re-entering

Both my H1 and my wife's H4 visa's expire in Feb '2003. I however decided to get it revalidated in Canada because I have to travel out of the country on work once in 3-4 months. I have appointment in Canada later this month. My current H1 and my wife's H4 (and 6 years) is valid till Dec '03.
1)What advantage do I have by traveling to Canada by Land vs air ?
2) Is it true that we do not have to surrender our I-94's when traveling by Land ? Actually my I-94 is atamped till Dec '2003 since I went abroad. My wife's I-94 is stamped till Feb '03.
3) When I travel back to US by land is my visa checked and new I-94 issued ?
3) In case I have problems with visa stamping in Canada, can I still re-enter US ?

I already booked my Air tickets and hotel etc.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Answers here
1. IMO, none. By land, there is pressure on the POE inspector because of the traffic back up and so people think they are lenient.

2. Yes, depending on which way you go, there is no checkpost for outgoing traffic and hence no need to surrender I94.

3. By Air, you need to file a new I94 definitely. While coming back it is your duty to file I94 even if one is not offered.

4. According to the April Rule, you should not be affected. Make copies of the I94 (front and back) just in case the airline insists on surrendering I94. So even if the visa stamping is refused (will not be cancelled by consulate), you can show the I94 and enter US.
