hi

my fiancee is on an h1-visa with a firm in new jersey. after marriage she is planning on moving to chicago to live with me. Her employer is ok with her working remotely. But does h1-visa allow a person to work remotely? I have heard something about distance from where you live to where you work and some rules regarding that etc. Can a person on h1 visa live in chicago and work for a company in new jersey? thanks for the help.

It's all in the paperwork..

My former boss has started his own consulting company..and has hired engineer's on H1..they keep moving around...LA/Portland,OR/Bay area..every few months..and I know for sure that he certainly does not keep re-filing any info with the INS.
having said that...check with a lawyer on its legality.
I personally had an H1 filed from Boston,MA..since some years ago the processing was faster than over at Calif..I got the H1 in 3 weeks and always worked physically from the company office in CA at all times..although my boss and team were in Boston...did not seem to hurt.

anand72,

Distance should not be a problem but Check for the state taxes.
I know a lot of people who work in one state and live in another.

Meow.
