H1 Transfer without SSN?? Urgent Please

Hello all
I came here on H4 and then changed my status to H1. I started working with Company A from October 1st (without SSN).
I have applied for SSN and SSN Office has sent my details to Immigration for Verification
Now I want to transfer my H1 to Company B.I have paystubs (well without SSN but on TaxID)
My Question is :
CAN I TRANSFER MY H1 WITHOUT SSN NUMBER

My wife got her H1 approved but SSN office wont accept her applicattion as her passport has H4 Visa stamping. Can one work legally with Tax ID and valid H1 without SSN ?
