H1 transfer while another H1 transfer is still pending

I would greatly appreciate if experts share their knowledge on the following subject.

I secured a new job with a company A. Low salary, no benefits.

I am going to transfer my current H1 to this company A.

H1 to H1 transfer can take up to 6 months in California processing center.

If I locate a job with better compensation while the transfer to A is still pending, at what point can I transfer my pending H1 from A to B?

I am holding an H1 status now.

Thank you in advance.
PS: I am aware of the option to convert pending case to a premium processing case. But I do not have a spare $1,000

jaxen,

Thank you for your reply.

Am I right assuming that I can transfer a pending petition from A to B as soon as I receive a receipt from INS (BCIS) that the petition is received by INS?

Also, if you know... Does the person HAS to work for the petitioning company A while the petition is still pending to maintain his/her status? By the time INS receives the petition from company A, I will be laid off from my current company.

Thank you.
