H1 transfer receipt

I have a H1 with company A. Company B filed for my transfer on 27th Jul 2007. I received a e-mail from them saying that the petetion has been filed with a USCIS service center and that I can expect the receipt in 2-3 weeks. I have to join ompany B on 6th Aug 2007. Can I start working for company B without the receipt from USCIS?
Will there be any problem is company A cancels my H1 after 27th July and before I receive the receiipt ?

I have a similar question. I have an H-1 from company A. I haven't joined the company yet and am still not in US. Can I file H-1 transfer to company B before entering US. Thanks.
