H1 transfer - from university to company

I recently got my H1B approved through a university and it starts on December 23, 2006. Now, a company has offered me a job which I am thinking about. Can I transfer my H1 from the University to the company? Does the H1B cap system apply for such transfers? Is it possible to transfer from a cap-exempt (university) category to a cap-non-exempt (company) category of employer? If yes, could you please let me know the procedure involved. Check whether your H1 is cap-exempt or not.

You need to apply for cap-subject H1. you can file it after April 1, and start working after Oct 1.
There is no "transfer" from cap-exempt to cap-subject unless you were on cap-subject H1 before.
