What if I apply for transfer from company A to company B but not join company B and remain with company A. Do I have to apply for transfer back to company A to remain in company A? What are the legal steps to follow in future?

Once you transfer from A to B....you cannot work for A....you have to transfer it back.....On the flip side instead of transferring apply for a brand new H1..by doing this you can have both A and B simultaneously.

Finally found this on immihelp.com

Q: I have working with employer X on H1B, and applied for H1 transfer through employer Y. After the transfer is approved, if I change my mind and decide o continue to work with current employer X, can I do that?
A: Yes. You can continue working with current employer as if you never filed H1 transfer.

If anyone has done this or confirmed with a lawyer, can you let me know?

--you CAN reamain with A till A has your valid H1 and if A has not revoked your H1.
