H1 Transfer and Automatic Extension???

I was just told something wierd by my company lawyer!!

My original H1 was was valid till Sept 2008 (first extension still pending).

I thought after my H1 Transfer, I'll file for an H1 extension!!!
I got my H1 transfer in a month
Now as I understand it, H1 extension is a long process similar to a new H1 Filing.

But now, my lawyer says my H1 is already EXTENDED to 2010, and all I need to do is if I leave Continental US AFTER sept 08- I need to get my VISA stamped to re-enter - WITHOUT actually going through an extension!!

My I94 on the Transferred I797 says April 2010!!!!!

Am I already extended WITHOUT going through an extension? Please help!!

Well, if your lawyer filed transfer with extended term, s/he is correct(except for the part you need to travel. You don't have to travel.)
Check the expiration date on I94 attached to I-797.

What's a transfer with extended term?
Is it the same as transfer + extension?

Apologies, I haven't heard of this and am curious as to how is it different from a regular extension (since I got it in 1.5 months flat!!)

In microscopic view, there is no such thing as transfer or extension.
All the H1 is the same new petition and every H1 petition can ask up to 3 years period.

Thanks for your response. I must be blind, the Approved 797 indeed DOES say transfer with extension.
All I need to get is a stamp of my new company now!!
